✈️ Airport Guide

Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) is the world's busiest passenger airport — and Atlanta's only major airport. Direct MARTA rail from inside the terminal to downtown, with Mercedes-Benz Stadium just a transfer away. Most international visitors arrive here.

ATL — world's busiest MARTA Red/Gold Line Direct to Downtown

Step by Step

Arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL)

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) is the world's busiest passenger airport — over 100 million passengers per year, Delta's main hub, and the gateway for nearly all Atlanta visitors. The good news: it's transit-connected. The MARTA station is inside the airport (no shuttle needed) with direct rail to downtown.

01
Land & Clear Immigration
International arrivals clear US Customs at Concourse F (the international concourse). Have your passport, customs declaration, and onward travel info ready. Mobile Passport Control or Global Entry kiosks dramatically speed up clearance.
→ Mobile Passport Control is free and almost as fast as Global Entry — download before you land.
02
Take the Plane Train
ATL has 7 concourses connected by the underground Plane Train (free, every 2 minutes). It's a long walk from international Concourse F to the main terminal — the Plane Train saves 15-20 min. Get off at "Domestic Terminal" / "Baggage Claim".
→ The Plane Train is the only way to move between concourses without exiting security.
03
Collect Baggage
Baggage carousels at ATL typically take 25-40 min after landing. International arrivals on the lower level. Allow extra time on Saturdays and during peak summer hours.
04
Take MARTA — $2.50
The MARTA Airport Station is connected directly to baggage claim — follow signs. Red and Gold lines both run northbound to downtown (every 10-15 min). For Mercedes-Benz Stadium: take Red or Gold to Five Points, then transfer to Blue or Green Line one stop west to GWCC/CNN Center. ~25 min total, $2.50.
→ Cheapest, most reliable option — beats rideshare on cost AND time during traffic.
05
Get Connected
International visitors should activate a US eSIM or international roaming before leaving the airport. T-Mobile and AT&T kiosks sell prepaid SIMs in-terminal. Airalo offers global eSIM plans you can buy and activate before you land — works on most modern phones.
→ You'll need US data for Uber, Google Maps, FIFA app, and the MARTA On the Go app.

MARTA (best to downtown)

~20 min to Five Points / 25 min to stadium

$30-55 to downtown
25-50 min depending on traffic
Uber/Lyft pickup at South Terminal Pickup Zone (level 2). Heavy I-75/I-85 Connector traffic 7-10 AM and 3-7 PM. MARTA usually faster during peak hours.
Atlanta Airport Shuttle
$25-40 per person
30-50 min (shared)

Essential Airport Tips

Smart ATL Practices

Download the FIFA app, Uber/Lyft, and the MARTA On the Go app before you land — US phone number sometimes required for setup. Use US eSIM or carrier roaming.
MARTA Airport Station is connected directly inside baggage claim — no shuttle. Skip rideshare; MARTA is faster and 10x cheaper.
For matchday: MARTA Red/Gold from ATL → transfer at Five Points → Blue/Green to GWCC/CNN Center. ~25 min total, $2.50.
Day-trip rentals: book at ATL's Rental Car Center for the best selection. Car needed for Helen, Blue Ridge, Stone Mountain, Savannah trips.
Match day: ATL-to-stadium rideshare is rarely cheaper than MARTA and often slower due to Connector traffic. Always favor MARTA for matchday arrivals.
ATL has a "smoking lounge" at Concourse F — most other US airports banned them. Useful if needed; otherwise skip.
