🎭 Things to Do in Guadalajara

Guadalajara is Mexico's cultural heartland — birthplace of mariachi, tequila, and charrería (the Mexican rodeo tradition). The Centro Histórico is denser with first-rate sights than CDMX's centro per square block, the José Clemente Orozco murals at Hospicio Cabañas alone justify a visit, and Tlaquepaque's artisan core is 20 minutes by Uber. You can do a strong 3-day cultural sweep without leaving city limits.

The Big Three

If you only have 48 hours: Hospicio Cabañas, a Centro Histórico walk, and an evening at Plaza de los Mariachis or Tlaquepaque's El Parián.

🎨
Hospicio Cabañas (UNESCO)
Centro, Cabañas 8. Houses 57 José Clemente Orozco murals including El Hombre en Llamas in the dome. Closed Mondays. MX$100–120. Allow 90 min. Lie on the floor in the chapel and look up — that's the framing he intended.
Catedral Basílica de la Asunción
Centro, Plaza de la Liberación. Twin neo-Gothic spires that anchor the GDL skyline. Free entry. Combine with the surrounding plazas in a single morning walk.
🚶
Centro Histórico walk
Plaza de Armas → Plaza de la Liberación → Teatro Degollado → Palacio de Gobierno (more Orozco murals — free). Plus Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres. 2 hours self-guided.
