Practical Tips

Muslim-Friendly Travel Tips

Verify halal certification
Always verify halal status with the restaurant directly — use Zabihah.com or the Halal Trip app to find certified halal restaurants in Houston. Don't assume a restaurant is halal based on name or cuisine type alone.
Hillcroft Ave — your halal base
The Hillcroft corridor (between Westheimer and Harwin Dr) is Houston's most concentrated halal food area. Dozens of Pakistani, Indian, Arabic, and African halal restaurants within a few blocks. Halal grocery stores including ZamZam Market and Al-Madina are here.
Wudu at the stadium
NRG Stadium bathrooms have standard sinks. Wudu-friendly facilities are not officially confirmed — plan to perform wudu at your hotel before match day. Prayer room availability at the stadium will be confirmed closer to the tournament.
Qibla direction in Houston
From Houston, the qibla direction is approximately 50–52° northeast. Use the Muslim Pro or Athan app for a precise compass reading at your specific location.
Ramadan note
The 2026 World Cup runs June–July, well outside Ramadan. No fasting considerations needed. Standard prayers apply throughout the tournament period.
Alcohol is everywhere
Alcohol is served at the stadium, in restaurants, and at fan zones. It is not compulsory — simply decline when offered. Non-alcoholic alternatives are always available. The Hillcroft halal restaurant cluster is entirely alcohol-free.
