Tipping in the United States is not optional in most service contexts — Missouri's tipped-wage minimum is around $6.85/hour, well below the $13.75 standard state minimum, and tips are how servers make a living. Sales Tax: Kansas City straddles the Missouri/Kansas border, and the tax rate varies by side. Missouri side (Kansas City, MO and most of the metro): ~8.6% combined. Kansas side (Kansas City, KS, Overland Park, Lenexa): ~9.1% combined, but groceries are taxed at a lower rate. Hotel rooms add 17.5% combined tax (state + county + city + tourism) on top of the room rate — significant. A $200/night hotel becomes $235 with taxes.

✓The KC Streetcar is FREE — runs the full length of Main Street from River Market through Crossroads, downtown Power & Light, Union Station, all the way to Country Club Plaza. Use it constantly when staying near Main Street; saves $10-25 per ride vs. rideshare.
✓Eat BBQ at the counter, not the dining room — Joe's KC BBQ ($11-15), Gates ($10-13), and Arthur Bryant's ($13-16) all serve the same elite BBQ at counter prices that beat any sit-down BBQ. Skip Jack Stack ($45-60/person dining room) unless you specifically want the white-tablecloth experience.
✓Free things to do: Country Club Plaza (walk the 14 fountains), the National WWI Memorial & Liberty Memorial (FIFA Fan Festival site, $10 to climb the tower), 18th & Vine District (jazz history exterior, the museums are paid), the Crossroads First Friday art walk, City Market on Saturdays. Multiple iconic KC experiences at zero cost.
✓Stay in Overland Park (KS) or the Northland for 30-40% cheaper hotel rates than downtown KC. Both are ~25-30 min from Arrowhead Stadium and have RideKC bus connections. Overland Park has the nearest ConnectKC26 hub at Oak Park Mall.

✓Book hotels now — prices rise weekly as the tournament approaches. Booking 3+ months out saves 30-50% vs. last-minute rates during match weeks. The Quarterfinal week (Jul 6-11) will be the most expensive; the Argentina match (Jun 16) will be a price spike too.
