What to Expect

Seattle Summer Reality

Seattle has a marine west coast climate — mild, dry summers with low humidity, cool nights, and breezy maritime air. Forget the rainy stereotype: July averages just 0.7" of rain, the lowest of any 2026 host city. The challenge is the early-tournament "Junuary" drizzle (cool, cloudy June) giving way to glorious, dry July. Long daylight (sunset 9 PM) makes evening matches stunning.

☁️
"Junuary" Is Real
Locals call early June "Junuary" — cool (60s), gray, and drizzly. The marine layer doesn't burn off most days until afternoon. The Belgium-Egypt opener (Jun 15) and USA-Australia (Jun 19) often fall in this transitional window. Pack a light rainshell and a fleece. By the time the Round of 16 hits (Jul 6), Seattle is reliably warm and sunny.
🌬️
Low Humidity, Cool Nights
Unlike East Coast host cities, Seattle has dry-feeling summers — humidity averages 60-65% but the air feels light because temps are mild. Even on 80°F+ days, evenings drop to 55-60°F. Bring layers for evening matches. The "feels like" temperature is almost always lower than the actual temperature, not higher.
☀️
Sun & Long Daylight
Seattle's latitude (47.6°N) gives it the longest summer days of any 2026 host city — sunset around 9:11 PM at solstice. The sun feels weaker than the South or Southwest, but UV is still strong on clear days. Sunscreen matters, especially if "the Mountain is out" (Mt. Rainier visible) and you're outside all afternoon.
🏟️
Lumen Field Is Open-Air
Lumen Field has a partial cover over the upper bowl, but field-level and lower seats are exposed. For day matches in June, expect cool 60-70°F conditions — bring a light layer. By July, expect 70-80°F sun. Rain is unlikely in early July but not impossible — the cover protects most upper-deck seats.

Match Day Weather Tips

Staying Comfortable

Noon Kickoffs (12pm PT)
Marine layer may still be burning off in early June. 60-72°F. Light layer + sunglasses. By July noon kickoffs are warm sunshine — sunscreen and water.
Afternoon Kickoffs (1-3pm)
Warmest part of the day — 70-78°F in June, up to 85°F in late July. Sunscreen essential. Lower-bowl seats can feel hotter due to reflective surfaces.
Evening Kickoffs (5pm PT+)
Pleasant — 60-72°F at kickoff, dropping to mid-50s after sunset (~9 PM). A light fleece or jacket is essential, even in July. Long daylight means natural light through halftime.
Inside Lumen Field
Open-air with partial upper-deck cover. Lower bowl is exposed to sun and any drizzle. Upper bowl seats are more protected but cooler in evening matches.

What to Pack

🎒
Seattle June / July Essentials
Light layers (60s-mid 70s daytime, 50s evening) · Compact rainshell or hooded windbreaker · SPF 30-50 sunscreen · Sunglasses · Reusable water bottle · Comfortable walking shoes (Seattle is steep and walking-heavy) · Fleece or hoodie for evening matches and harborside dinners. Pack a clear bag for Lumen Field — anything bigger than 12"x6"x12" is denied at the gate.
