Stadium Transit

🚇 Getting to BC Place

BC Place is in downtown Vancouver — uniquely transit-accessible via SkyTrain. On match days, use Main Street–Science World Station (Expo Line) ONLY — Stadium-Chinatown and Yaletown-Roundhouse stations are not accessible to BC Place on match days. From YVR airport via Canada Line: 25 min. Allow 2 hours pre-kickoff for FIFA security perimeter.

🚨 CRITICAL — Match-day station change (confirmed June 2026): On FIFA World Cup match days, use Main Street–Science World Station ONLY to access BC Place. Stadium-Chinatown Station and Yaletown-Roundhouse Station are NOT accessible to BC Place on match days — TransLink has restricted those exits for crowd management. Board the Expo Line eastbound and exit at Main Street–Science World, then follow FIFA signage to the stadium (approx. 10-min walk). Do not exit at Stadium-Chinatown; you will be turned away from the gates.
⚠️ Pacific Blvd closure (May 23 → late July 2026): The City of Vancouver has closed Pacific Boulevard from Cambie St Bridge to Carrall St for the duration of the tournament — the road that runs along the south side of BC Place. Walking and rideshare drop-off paths are rerouted; SkyTrain to Main Street–Science World is the strongly recommended approach. Verify current closure map at vancouverfwc26.ca/community-hub/road-closures.
TransLink confirmed tournament service levels: TransLink is adding ~600 additional bus trips per day across the network during the tournament. SkyTrain will run as frequently as every 2 minutes at peak on the Expo and Millennium Lines. SeaBus runs every 10 minutes before and after matches. Late-night extended service (all lines run 1 hour later) applies on 3 specific dates only: June 13, June 26, and July 2 — the three late evening kickoffs (8 PM+). For all other match nights, normal last-train times apply (~1 AM). Broadway corridor construction detour: multi-month construction work on the Broadway corridor is active throughout the tournament — fans travelling via this corridor should allow significant extra travel time.

Your Options

Getting to BC Place

Walking from Downtown
Free · 10-25 min · waterfront route
From downtown core (Robson, Granville): 15-min walk via Granville Mall. From Yaletown: 10-min walk via False Creek seawall. From Coal Harbour: 25-min walk through Robson, Vancouver Public Library, Yaletown. Vancouver's compact downtown grid + flat lakefront makes walking feasible from most central neighborhoods. Most fans will walk in good weather.
Pros
  • Free, no transfers
  • Scenic waterfront option
  • Avoids post-match transit crush
Cons
  • Vancouver rain is real — pack a jacket
  • Limited covered routes
  • Can be slow in match-day crowds
Uber / Lyft
$10–25 CAD ($7–18 USD) · less surge than US cities
From downtown core to BC Place: 5-10 min off-peak, 15-20 min match-day. Uber and Lyft both work in Vancouver; Uber is more dominant. Set drop-off as "BC Place Stadium - Pacific Boulevard". Match-day surge is real but smaller than US cities — typically 1.3-1.6x. Drop-off zone may shift due to FIFA road closures.
Pros
  • Door-to-door, AC, comfortable
  • Works in Vancouver rain
  • Late-night option
Cons
  • Match-day road closures within 1 km
  • Pacific Blvd gridlock 90 min pre-kickoff
  • Drop-off may be 500m from gates
Driving / Parking
Pre-paid lots $30–60 CAD ($22–44 USD)
Not recommended. Downtown Vancouver parking is expensive and slow. Match-day road closures around BC Place + downtown grid. Pre-paid lots at BC Place via Ticketmaster — book ahead. Most fans should use SkyTrain or walk.

From the Airport

YVR to the City

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is on Sea Island in Richmond, ~12 km south of downtown. Among the world's best-rated airports. The Canada Line SkyTrain direct from YVR to downtown is among the cleanest airport-to-city connections in North America.

🚇
Canada Line SkyTrain
~$8–10 CAD — best from YVR. The Canada Line direct from YVR Airport Station to downtown — 25 min, every 7-15 min from 5 AM-1 AM. Tap-to-pay or buy at the kiosk. YVR AddFare of $5 CAD is added to the standard zone fare for any trip originating at YVR (it does not apply on the return). Total cost = standard zone fare + $5; check current rates at translink.ca. Among the world's best airport-rail links.
🚗
Uber / Lyft from YVR
$30-50 CAD ($22-37 USD) from YVR to downtown. Pickup at the designated rideshare zone — exit terminal, follow "Uber/Lyft" signs. ~25-35 min depending on traffic. Verify driver license plate matches the app.
🚐
Authorized airport taxi
$35-50 CAD ($26-37 USD). Flat-rate to most downtown destinations. Pickup at the official taxi rank — exit terminal, follow signs. Yellow Cab and similar licensed services. Slightly more expensive than rideshare; more reliable for early morning / late night.
🚙
Seattle land border (US fans)
Vancouver is 230 km / 3 hours' drive from Seattle via I-5 + Peace Arch border crossing. The closest Canadian WC city to the US. Border crossing: 30-90 min depending on time of day. NEXUS card holders cross fastest. Seattle-Vancouver Amtrak Cascades train (4h, $35 USD) is the relaxed alternative. Most US auto rentals extend to Canada — verify with rental agency.

Match Day Plan

The 2-Hour Rule

FIFA security at BC Place extends ~300m from the stadium. Combined with crowd flow on Pacific Boulevard, plan to arrive 2 hours before kickoff. Vancouver's compact downtown means logistics are simpler than most WC cities.

1
Eat in downtown / Yaletown / Gastown. Stadium-area Pacific Boulevard has limited dining beyond chain restaurants. Pre-load at Yaletown (5-min walk to BC Place — Blue Water Cafe, Provence Marinaside), Gastown (L'Abattoir, Save On Meats, restaurants), or Robson Street (food court density).
2
SkyTrain by 2 hours pre-kickoff. ⚠️ On match days, ride to Main Street–Science World Station (NOT Stadium-Chinatown — that station has no BC Place access on match days). From any downtown Expo Line station: 5-10 min, every 3-5 min. The trains are short (4 cars) but frequent.
3
~10-min walk from Main Street–Science World. Exit station, follow FIFA signage west toward BC Place. Path well-signed with event marshals guiding fans. Vendors sell jerseys, scarves, Tim Hortons coffee. The stadium's massive bowl becomes visible within 2-3 blocks.
4
Security: 30-45 min. FIFA security at BC Place has multiple rings; moves faster than most US stadiums (Canadian efficiency). Have your phone (e-ticket) ready, government ID matching the ticket name, no large bags (max 25cm × 25cm × 15cm), sealed water only, no professional cameras.
5
Post-match: 15-30 min SkyTrain crush. Main Street–Science World station fills up immediately post-final-whistle. Either stay seated for 15 min, or walk further east to Broadway-City Hall or west toward Granville SkyTrain station for a less-packed ride. Uber surge will be 1.5-2x for 60 min.
Weather note: Vancouver June can be cool and unpredictable — pack a packable rain jacket. The retractable roof at BC Place closes for rain, so the stadium itself is climate-controlled when needed. But the walk from SkyTrain to gate is exposed; keep a light jacket. Check the BC Place app for roof status before each match.

🚐
False Creek Aquabus
$5 CAD. Tiny ferry boats across False Creek connecting Yaletown, Granville Island, Olympic Village. Fun but not essential transit. Day pass $12 CAD.
