Markets & Souvenirs

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Vancouver Shopping

Vancouver's shopping pulls in three directions: flagship downtown (Robson Street + Pacific Centre), indie / heritage (Gastown, Main Street, Commercial Drive), and Asian malls in Richmond โ€” the largest Asian shopping concentration in North America. The signature local buy is Indigenous Pacific Northwest art, available at half a dozen serious galleries.

Markets & Streets

Where to Browse

๐Ÿฅ–
Granville Island Public Market
1689 Johnston St. Vancouver's iconic public market. Daily 9amโ€“6pm. Net Loft for BC-made art and crafts. Best one-stop souvenir.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ
Robson Street
Flagship downtown shopping. H&M, Apple Store, Lululemon flagship โ€” the Vancouver hometown brand. Pedestrian energy, food on the way.
๐Ÿฌ
Pacific Centre
700 W Georgia. Nordstrom, Hudson's Bay, Holt Renfrew, 120+ stores. Underground concourse links to office towers โ€” useful on rain days.
๐Ÿงฑ
Gastown
Indie boutiques (John Fluevog Shoes, Old Faithful Shop), galleries, cobblestoned heritage. Best vibe for non-mall shopping.
โ˜•
Main Street (Mt Pleasant)
Indie design, vintage, third-wave coffee. Roughly Main between Broadway and 30th. Half-day stroll.
๐Ÿ•
Commercial Drive ("The Drive")
Italian + global food, vinyl, vintage clothing. Bohemian neighborhood feel. SkyTrain Commercial-Broadway.

Asian Malls โ€” Richmond

15 Minutes South of Downtown

Richmond โ€” 15-minute SkyTrain south on the Canada Line โ€” is the densest Asian shopping concentration in North America. The big four malls are within a few stops of each other.

๐Ÿฏ
Aberdeen Centre
Largest, most polished. Daiso, Yokoyaya, 100+ Asian retailers and food court. Din Tai Fung lives here.
๐Ÿœ
Yaohan Centre
Older, more market-feel. Japanese supermarket Osaka, food court with hand-pulled noodles.
๐Ÿ›’
Parker Place
Indie-stall feel. Bubble tea, Hong Kong-style cafรฉs, electronics.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ
Lansdowne Centre
Mainstream Canadian + Asian mix. Easier if Aberdeen feels overwhelming.
Park Royal (West Vancouver): Large suburban mall + outdoor shopping village across the Lions Gate Bridge. Skip if you have other plans โ€” Pacific Centre downtown covers most of the same retail.

Indigenous Pacific Northwest Art

The Signature Vancouver Buy

Pacific Northwest formline-style art (carving, prints, jewelry) is Vancouver's most distinctive souvenir category. Authentic pieces support First Nations artists and carry serious cultural weight. Buy from member galleries โ€” not airport gift shops.

๐Ÿฆ…
Eagle Spirit Gallery
Maritime Mews, Granville Island. High-end authentic Indigenous Pacific Northwest art. Major carvings, masks, prints.
๐Ÿชต
Inukshuk Gallery
1551 Johnston St, Granville Island. Inuit and Pacific Northwest art.
๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ
Wickaninnish Gallery
Granville Island, est. 1987. Long-running, accessible price-points, prints + small carvings + jewelry.
๐Ÿป
Hill's Native Art
Gastown, 165 Water St. Large gallery, broad price range, well-stocked print room.
๐ŸŽจ
Coastal Peoples Fine Arts Gallery
Yaletown, 1024 Mainland. High-end, museum-quality work. Walking distance to BC Place.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ
Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art
639 Hornby St. Museum + gallery. Bill Reid is Canada's most-celebrated Haida artist; the gallery shop sells authentic prints and books.
Authenticity: Cheap "Native-style" knockoffs are everywhere downtown and at the airport. Look for the Authentic Indigenous mark or buy directly from the galleries above. If a piece is C$15 at a Robson souvenir shop, it's not authentic.
