Following Saudi Arabia Across America

Saudi Arabia's 7th World Cup — riding the tail of one of the great upsets in World Cup history (the 2-1 win over Argentina in Qatar 2022) and a Pro-League era that brought Ronaldo, Benzema, Mané, Neymar to the domestic game. Drawn into Group H with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde. The route is a Southern triangle: Hard Rock Stadium Miami for the Uruguay opener, Mercedes-Benz Atlanta for the Spain marquee, NRG Houston for the Cape Verde decider. Saudi fans need a US B1/B2 visa from Riyadh or Jeddah; in 2026 the wait is roughly 2–4 months. With 2030 World Cup hosting ahead, this tournament is a soft-power dress rehearsal.

Group Stage Schedule

Three Cities, Eleven Days

All three Saudi Arabia group matches are confirmed via FIFA. The route is a tight Southern US triangle: Miami → Atlanta (~660 mi, 1h 30min flight) → Houston (~790 mi from Atlanta, 2h 10min). Spain is the marquee group game; Cape Verde at Houston is the decider on the Group H final matchday.

Jun 15Monday
6:00 PM ET
1:00 AM Tue AST
Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay
Hard Rock Stadium · Miami Gardens, FL · The opener · Miami's first WC match
Miami's first World Cup match. Uruguay are 2x World Cup champions (1930, 1950) and Bielsa's project — physical, organized, with Núñez and Araújo at the core. Saudi Arabia are heavy underdogs but have shown twice (Argentina 2022, Egypt 2018) they can produce upsets. Hard Rock Stadium has no public rail — Brightline + free Hard Rock shuttle from Aventura, or the Miami-Dade DTPW free 4-hub stadium shuttle (announced Apr 2026). Allow 3 hours pre-kickoff. The 1 AM Tuesday AST kickoff is brutal for at-home Saudi audience.
Jun 21Sunday
12:00 PM ET
7:00 PM AST
Spain vs Saudi Arabia
Mercedes-Benz Stadium · Atlanta, GA · The marquee match · Group H decider candidate
The marquee group game. Spain are the Euro 2024 champions — Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Rodri, Nico Williams, Álvaro Morata. They are the toughest test in Group H by a wide margin. Saudi Arabia get a primetime 7 PM AST kickoff at home — perfect for the at-home audience. Mercedes-Benz Stadium has direct MARTA Blue/Green Line at GWCC Station; Atlanta's Activation Zone (effective Jun 2026) restricts traffic around the venue. Allow 2.5 hours pre-kickoff.
Jun 26Friday
7:00 PM CT
3:00 AM Sat AST
Cape Verde vs Saudi Arabia
NRG Stadium · Houston, TX · The Group H decider
The Group H decider. Cape Verde are debutants — the smallest nation by population (~600,000) ever to qualify for a men's World Cup. Saudi Arabia should be favourites. NRG Stadium is the only Southern WC venue with direct light rail to its stadium — METRORail Red Line every 6 minutes on match days at standard $1.25 fare; the $15 Fannin South Park & Ride includes round-trip rail. Houston has a substantial Saudi-American oil/gas-industry community. The 3 AM Saturday AST closer is brutal for at-home viewers.

Jun 30 / Jul 1
Tue-Wed
If Saudi top Group H: R32 likely Atlanta or LA bracket-dependent. If 2nd: Bracket flips — could end up at Bay Area or Seattle. If they go out: Fly home via JFK on Saudia direct, or stay for the historic Houston/Miami QF window. Saudi Arabia have never advanced past the group stage — the R32 alone would be historic.
The Argentina-2022 echo: Saudi Arabia's most famous moment in football — 2-1 over Argentina in the 2022 opening match in Qatar (Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari the goalscorers; Argentina went on to win the tournament anyway). 24-year unbeaten streak ended; Argentina rebooted, Saudi Arabia rode the wave home. The squad in 2026 contains many of those same players — Al-Dawsari, Al-Owais, Al-Shehri, Al-Bulayhi.
Vision 2030 + 2030 World Cup: Saudi Arabia hosts the men's 2030 World Cup (alongside Spain, Portugal, Morocco for 100-year-anniversary opening matches in Uruguay/Argentina/Paraguay). The 2026 tournament is also part of Vision 2030 — the Saudi Pro League era brought Ronaldo, Benzema, Mané, Neymar, Mahrez. Cost reality: SAR 22,000-45,000 per person (~$5,800-$12,000) for the group-stage trip including visa, flights, hotels.

If Saudi Arabia advance

The Knockout Path

2026 uses a 32-team knockout bracket. Top 2 from each group plus 8 best 3rd-place teams advance. Saudi Arabia have never advanced past the group stage in 6 previous appearances (best: 2 group-stage wins, 1994 R16 qualification was their breakthrough). Reaching the R32 in 2026 would be historic; the R16 unprecedented.

🥇
If Saudi win Group H
Round of 32: Likely Bay Area, LA, or Seattle bracket-dependent. Round of 16: Could be Bay Area, LA, KC, or Houston. Quarterfinal: Western QFs (LA Jul 10, Houston Jul 12).
🥈
If Saudi finish 2nd
Round of 32: Bracket flips east — Atlanta, Boston, NY, Philly. Round of 16: Could be Boston, Atlanta, Miami. Quarterfinal: East-coast QFs (MetLife Jul 11, Boston Jul 9).
The squad core
Salem Al-Dawsari (Al-Hilal — Argentina-winner goalscorer), Saleh Al-Shehri (Al-Hilal), Salman Al-Faraj (Al-Hilal), Mohammed Al-Owais (Al-Hilal — keeper), Ali Al-Bulayhi (Al-Hilal — captain), Ali Al-Hassan, Abdulilah Al-Amri. Coached by Hervé Renard (returning since 2025 after his France women's stint). Squad mostly drawn from Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad.
🏆
The Final
Sunday July 19, 3 PM ET / 10 PM AST, MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ). Saudi Arabia have never reached a World Cup quarterfinal. The R32 would be historic. New York guide.

Supporter Culture & Watch Hubs

The Saudi-American Network

There are an estimated 120,000-150,000 Saudi-Americans in the US — roughly half are students on F-1/M-1 visas, the other half permanent residents working in oil/gas, healthcare, hospitality, and government-affiliated business. The largest clusters are in Houston (Energy Corridor), Pittsburgh, Boston (universities), DC suburbs (Tysons/Bethesda), Indianapolis (medical), and Los Angeles.

🛢️
Houston — Energy Corridor
The largest Saudi-American community in the US, anchored by Saudi Aramco's Houston office, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, and adjacent oil-and-gas firms. Concentrated in Westchase, Sugar Land, the Energy Corridor. Restaurants: Al-Khobar, Al-Riyadh, Layali Beirut, Cafe Asad. Match-day TV crowds at any Westchase Arabic restaurant. Saudi Cultural Mission organizes campus events.
🎓
Universities & medical
Boston (Harvard, MIT, BU, Tufts), DC (GWU, GMU, Johns Hopkins), Indianapolis (IU School of Medicine), Pittsburgh (Pitt Med Center), Cleveland (Cleveland Clinic) all host substantial Saudi student/medical-resident communities — typically several hundred to a couple thousand per city under the King Abdullah Scholarship and KASP. Smaller but visible clusters in San Diego (Naval/medical), Tampa, Orlando.
🦅
Al-Akhdar & supporter culture
"Al-Akhdar" (the Greens) — the official nickname; the squad is also called "Al-Suqour" (the Falcons). The green-and-white Saudi flag with the shahada and sword is the official banner. Supporter songs blend traditional Najdi rhythm with modern football chants. The "Saudi Cup" ultras group operates from Riyadh; expect organized bus trips between Miami, Atlanta, and Houston for the group stage.
📺
Saudi broadcast in the US
For non-attended matches: SSC Sports (Saudi Sports Company) holds Saudi Arabia's domestic World Cup rights — accessible in the US via VPN with a Shahid (MBC) login. beIN Sports MENA via streaming workarounds. Telemundo for Spanish, Fox/FS1 for English. Houston/DC Saudi restaurants run SSC and beIN via satellite/IPTV.
📣
SAFF & tournament prep
SAFF (Saudi Arabian Football Federation) operates official tournament-ticket allocation through saff.com.sa. Watch for late-May Riyadh tune-up friendlies. Expect well-organized Saudi supporter sections at Miami, Atlanta, Houston with green tifo and the iconic falcon banner. Saudi fans are reliably positive and family-oriented.
Time-zone analysis
Saudi time (AST/GMT+3, no DST). Match 1 Uruguay: 1 AM Tuesday AST — late-night Monday-into-Tuesday, brutal. Match 2 Spain: 7 PM Sunday AST — perfect Saudi primetime, the gem of the schedule. Match 3 Cape Verde: 3 AM Saturday AST — early-morning weekend, brutal closer. The Spain match will be the most-watched single TV event in Saudi Arabia in years.

For Saudi Fans Specifically

The Practical Stuff

🛂
US B1/B2 visa
Saudi passport-holders need a US B1/B2 visa from the US Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate in Jeddah/Dhahran. Wait times ~2–4 months in 2026; book interview the moment your match ticket is confirmed. Saudi Arabia is NOT in the Visa Waiver Program. Multiple-entry 5-year visas are typical once approved. Have a tournament-ticket confirmation, employer letter, and bank statements ready. Full US visa guide.
📱
Phone & data
Saudi carriers (STC, Mobily, Zain) charge SAR 25-75/day for US roaming. An eSIM is much cheaper — Airalo US plans start at $4.50/GB and provision in minutes. Saudi VPNs (Hola, ExpressVPN) work without restriction in the US. eSIM setup guide.
💵
Currency & tipping
SAR/$ rate is fixed at SAR 3.75 per USD (Saudi Riyal pegged to dollar since 1986). Use Wise, Mada, or any major Visa/Mastercard for fee-free spending. Saudi banks (Al Rajhi, NCB/SAB) charge ~3% foreign-transaction fees — get a fintech card. Tipping: 18-22% mandatory in US — a big shift from Saudi Arabia's optional 10% model. Halal-certified restaurants are widely available in Houston, Atlanta, Miami diaspora areas.
🔌
Plugs & voltage
Saudi Arabia uses Type G (UK-style) plugs primarily, increasingly Type A/B/C/F as standardization rolls out; the US uses Type A/B. Bring an adapter — SAR 30-80 in any Riyadh electronics shop, $5-10 in a US drugstore. Voltage: US is 120V, Saudi Arabia is 127V/220V. Modern phone chargers and laptops auto-switch.
🌡️
Southern US weather
Miami in mid-June: 27-32°C (81-90°F), thunderstorm season starting, very humid. Atlanta: 22-30°C (72-86°F), humid. Houston: 26-33°C (79-91°F), most humid of the three. Cooler than Riyadh's 40+°C summer, but the humidity is a shock. Pack light cotton; bring a light rain jacket for Miami/Atlanta thunderstorms.
🛬
Direct flights from Saudi Arabia
Riyadh (RUH) and Jeddah (JED): Saudia direct JED → JFK and RUH → JFK (~13h, daily 2026), Saudia RUH → IAD (Washington direct), Saudia JED → LAX (seasonal). Lufthansa via FRA, BA via LHR, KLM via AMS, Qatar via DOH. Onward MIA/ATL/IAH from JFK domestically.
