The Three Lions in the USA

Following England Across America

England's group runs 10 days across three different US cities — Dallas, then Boston, then the New York metro. A genuine cross-country tour. The good news for English fans: ESTA-only entry (no visa interview), familiar(ish) language, and the East-Coast leg of the trip is geographically tight. The hard part is Dallas — 1,800 mi from Boston, must fly. This page is the practical guide for following the Three Lions in person.

Group Stage Schedule

Three Cities, Ten Days

All three England group matches are confirmed post-draw. The opener is in Dallas (Texas heat, 3 PM kickoff — be prepared), then a 6-day gap to Boston, then a 4-day gap to the New York area for the closer.

England vs Croatia
Dallas Stadium · Arlington (Dallas), TX · 2018 semifinal rematch
The grudge match. Croatia knocked England out of the 2018 semifinal in Moscow (2-1, extra time). Now the rematch on neutral ground — and the opener of England's group. Dallas Stadium has a retractable roof, so heat won't kill you, but get to Arlington 3+ hours early — there's no direct rail and FIFA shuttle queues from CentrePort Station fill up.

England vs Ghana
Boston Stadium · Foxborough (Boston), MA · The marquee Boston group game
Boston's biggest group fixture. Ghana's a tricky African opponent with Premier League-experienced players. "Kick the Drive" advisory — MassDOT explicitly tells fans not to drive to Foxborough; the $80 MBTA Stadium Train from South Station is essentially the only access. The Stadium Train ticket also covers free unrestricted travel across the entire MBTA commuter rail that day — a sneaky upgrade if you're staying in Cambridge or further out.

Panama vs England
MetLife Stadium · East Rutherford, NJ (NY metro) · England's group-stage closer
The closer. Panama's the easiest pure-football opponent of the three on paper — but the table will be tight after two matchdays and England may need a result to top the group. MetLife is a logistical beast: $150 NJ Transit rail (40k cap, ticket-holders only) or $80 official shuttle, both required pre-booking. Walking to the stadium is prohibited. Don't drive.

Itinerary

The 11-Day Run

From the Dallas opener to the New York closer is 11 days. Two flights minimum (Dallas → Boston, then Boston → NY which can also be the Acela train ~4 hours). For most travelling fans the Boston → NY hop is short enough to do as a 1-2 day mini-trip, then settle in NY for several days before the closer.

Jun 11
Thu
Tournament opens in Mexico City. England fans not flying out until later in the week — Bank Holiday weekend traffic at Heathrow expected.
Jun 14–16
Sun-Tue
Fly UK → Dallas (DFW). ~10-hour direct from Heathrow on BA or American. Arrive at least 2 days before the match to recover from jet lag — Dallas is GMT-5 (CDT), 6 hours behind UK time. DFW airport guide.
Jun 17
Wed
England vs Croatia · Dallas Stadium · 3 PM CDT (9 PM BST). 3 PM kickoff = peak Dallas heat (likely 95°F+). Roof will be closed. Be on the FIFA shuttle from CentrePort by noon. Tailgating policy is unsettled — assume restricted, no large grills.
Jun 18–22
Thu-Mon
5 days off — Dallas, then fly to Boston. Two options: spend the gap in Dallas/Texas (Fort Worth Stockyards, Austin road trip), or head to Boston early and explore New England. The Dallas → Boston flight is ~4 hours direct; book in advance on AA, Delta, or JetBlue. BOS airport guide.
Jun 23
Tue
England vs Ghana · Boston Stadium · 4 PM ET (9 PM BST). South Station 90 min before kickoff for the boarding-group line. Stadium Train + commuter-rail day pass = best value of any host city.
Jun 24–26
Wed-Fri
3 days, Boston → NY. The Acela (Amtrak) runs Boston ↔ New York Penn in ~4 hours; flights ~1 hour 15 min on Delta/JetBlue/American shuttle routes. Many English fans split the gap: 2 nights Boston, then move to Manhattan or Jersey City for the closer. NY airport guide.
Jun 27
Sat
Panama vs England · MetLife · 5 PM ET (10 PM BST). Saturday evening kickoff. NJ Transit rail from Penn Station NY → Secaucus → Meadowlands shuttle. Penn Station is partial-closed 4 hours pre-match to non-ticket-holders. Plan to be on a train by 1 PM at the latest.
Jun 30
Tue
If England top Group L: R32 likely at MetLife Jul 1 — stay in NY. If they finish 2nd: R32 venue depends on the bracket — could be Atlanta, Philly, or Houston. If they go out: watch the rest from a London sports venue. Most English fans book a return flight Jun 29 or 30 if pessimistic; Jul 1 if optimistic.
Cost reality check for English fans: the full group-stage trip (3 city flights from UK + intra-US flights + 11 nights of hotels split across three cities + ground transport + food) lands around £3,500–£6,500 per person for the group stage alone — not including match tickets ($295–$1,565 face value, before resale). Most travelling Three Lions fans will pick one or two matches and watch the rest from a sports bar back home. The Dallas opener has the softest secondary-market prices because it's the earliest match.

If England advance

The Knockout Path

2026 uses a 32-team knockout bracket. Top 2 from each group plus 8 best 3rd-place teams advance. England Group L's projected venues:

🥇
If England win Group L
Round of 32: MetLife Stadium (NY/NJ), Jul 1 — same venue as the group-stage closer, no extra travel. Round of 16: Likely a return to Boston or Philly bracket-dependent. Quarterfinal: Could be MetLife (the Jul 11 QF) or an east-coast venue.
🥈
If England finish 2nd
Round of 32: Likely Philly or Atlanta. Round of 16: Bracket-dependent — could be Boston, Philly, or even back to Dallas. Quarterfinal: The east-coast QFs (Boston, KC, Miami) are all in play.
🥉
If England finish 3rd
Top 8 of 12 third-place teams advance. Even with one win and a draw, 4 points usually qualifies. Round of 32: Bracket-volatile — likely an east-coast venue. Round of 16: Very bracket-dependent. The 3rd-place path is the hardest to plan around.
🏆
The Final
Sunday July 19, 3 PM ET / 8 PM BST, MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ). For English fans this is essentially "home" — third trip to MetLife in three weeks. NY/NJ hotels for finals weekend will be a nightmare; book speculatively before the QF if optimistic. New York guide.

Supporter Clubs & Watch Parties

The England Supporters Travel Club

The ESTC (England Supporters Travel Club) is the FA's official member-only away-game travel group. Membership unlocks priority match-ticket allocation and grouped seating in the official England section.

🎟️
ESTC Membership
Annual membership (£75-ish, "Englandfans") gets you the priority allocation window for tournament tickets and access to the official England fans section at each match. Apply via the FA's thefa.com Englandfans portal.
📣
England Fan Walks
For Croatia in Dallas, expect an organised walk from a Sundance Square (Fort Worth) or Arlington bar to the stadium gates. For Boston, the walk historically forms at South Station before the Stadium Train. ESTC announces meetup points 1-2 weeks before each match.
📺
UK Broadcast
BBC + ITV share UK rights — every England match free-to-air. Most US sports bars near the host stadiums will be packed with English fans on matchdays; for non-attended matches, BBC Sounds + iPlayer is the way. Don't pirate via Kodi — sites are increasingly blocked from US IPs.
📺
English Watch Venues
Each host city has a known English-expat venue for England matches. Dallas: The Londoner (Addison) or Trinity Hall. Boston: The Pour House on Boylston, or the Black Rose near Faneuil Hall. NYC: The Football Factory at Legends NYC (West 33rd St), Lillie's Victorian (Union Square), or The Grafton (East Village). Arrive 1 hour pre-kickoff or you won't get in.

The Practical Stuff

🛂
ESTA, not UK ETA
UK passport holders need a US ESTA — $21 at esta.cbp.dhs.gov. Don't confuse with the UK's own ETA scheme (that's for foreigners visiting Britain — completely unrelated). Apply 2+ weeks before flying. Avoid the $80–$120 third-party scam sites. Full UK ETA vs US ESTA guide.
📱
Phone & data
UK plans (EE, Vodafone, O2, Three) charge £5–£10/day for US roaming with limited data. Total cost over an 11-day trip = £55–£110 for one device, often throttled after 1–5 GB. An eSIM is much cheaper — Airalo US data starts at $4.50/GB and activates instantly. eSIM setup guide.
💰
Currency & tipping
£/$ exchange around 1:1.30 currently. Use Wise / Revolut / Monzo for fee-free spending — don't use UK debit cards directly (foreign-transaction fees ~3%). Tipping is mandatory in the US — 18-22% in restaurants and bars; 15-20% on Uber. The bill almost never includes service.
🏨
US hotel quirks
"Resort fees" at large US hotels are mandatory $20-50/night charges layered on top of the advertised rate — check before you book. US hotels also typically don't include breakfast unless explicitly stated. Consider Airbnb / VRBO for longer stays in expensive cities (NY especially).
🌡️
Heat: Dallas vs Boston/NY
Dallas in mid-June: 95-100°F (35-38°C), peak heat. Boston in late June: 75-85°F (24-29°C), pleasant. NY late June: 80-88°F (27-31°C), humid. Pack lighter than you think for Dallas; lighter still on rain protection but bring an umbrella for NY thunderstorm season.
🧳
Time zones
UK to Dallas = 6 hours back (GMT-5 CDT in summer), Boston/NY = 5 hours back (GMT-4 EDT). Eastward jet lag (US → UK on the way home) is brutal — most fans need 2-3 days to recover. Plan return travel accordingly. The Dallas 9 PM BST kickoff (3 PM local) = mid-afternoon for at-home viewing back home.
